Shyama (Year 2, Bachelor of Engineering) is a passionate student whose love for biology, engineering, and mathematics has led her towards the field of Biomedical Engineering studies. As her major, this programme has allowed her to concentrate on the technological aspects of biomedical devices and pursue her dream of developing innovative technologies. Shyama is delving deeper into the field through shadowing study, where she observes first-hand the sophisticated process of professors and doctoral students conducting laboratory research at HKU.
Under the Faculty of Engineering's flexible curriculum and the extensive selection of minor courses, Shyama has chosen to further pursue a minor in Data Science and Engineering. “I chose Data Science and Engineering as my minor as I believe that proficiency in computing and data analysis is essential for conducting innovative biomedical engineering research. This combination of major and minor programmes will equip me with a unique set of problem-solving, interdisciplinary skills. I am enthusiastic about the upcoming opportunities and committed to making a significant contribution to the field of biomedical engineering."
Shyama has set her sights on developing high-tech biomedical engineering devices, and she is determined to leverage the knowledge and skills she has gained from her major and minor programmes to achieve this goal. "My major and minor studies, as well as the invaluable knowledge, research experience, and interdisciplinary skill set that they provide, will undoubtedly propel me towards achieving my goals and tackling the challenging of this exciting field." Shyama shares.
