Pursue a career in English Language and Education
Jointly offered by the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Education, this programme enables students to earn both a BA in English language and linguistics and a BEd in English language education over five years of study. Following graduation, you will meet the requirements for English language teachers in both primary and secondary schools as recommended by the HKSAR government.

The curriculum integrates academic and professional studies in language education. You will study English language and linguistics in the Faculty of Arts plus core courses in professional education in the Faculty of Education. You will learn about the pedagogical, psychological and sociological underpinnings of professional practice, and gain teaching experience in local primary and secondary schools across five years of study.
Graduates will earn a BA in English language and linguistics and a BEd in English language education. The programme is equivalent to a BA plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education – a professional teaching qualification recognised locally. The degree meets the HKSAR government’s requirements for English teachers in both primary and secondary schools, including a first degree majoring in English, and a teacher training qualification in English language teaching.
The double degree programme paves the way for a wide variety of career options, from teaching to civil service to publishing to human resources. Graduates have gone on to teach English language in primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. Others have joined government positions in quality assurance and curriculum development or civil service and administration. Alternatively, graduates may pursue a career in educational publishing, human resources development or communications, or in diverse fields like media and journalism, arts and culture, law, and management.
